Called to Someone Before Called for Something

Our calling to God was initiated at creation. God created humans for relationship with Him. Although sin created a great chasm between God and humanity, it didn’t change our purpose for being: relationship with God.

Through Christ’s death and resurrection He bridged the gap, created by sin, that separates us. That call to relationship with Him, knitted into our souls, woos us to the bridge. We are not fully living out our purpose until we answer His call to cross the bridge. Once we hear Christ’s voice and accept his call to be in relationship with Him, we answer our primary calling. (2 Timothy 1:9-10) and (Romans 8:28-30)

Entering the kingdom through that God-provided bridge positions us to hear our secondary call. This is the call to participate in God’s kingdom work. Doesn’t that just amaze you that God wants to work through us? He isn’t just finding any old something for you to do either. He had your secondary call in mind when he knit you together in your mother’s womb. He designed you with particular talents, interests, and personality traits that would fit with the calling He would issue to you. He has equipped you through your life experiences to be uniquely suited to accomplish that to which He calls you. (Ephesians 4:1-14)
